Kelis mixes gay club culture with acoustic guitars on Flesh Tones album

Billboard have been lucky enough to preview Kelis’ new album Flesh Tones (due April), spilling some new details on several of the albums tracks, all of which sound very promising.

Other songs on the anticipated eight-song project include “4th of July,” produced by DJ Ammo; “Kids,” inspired by homosexual clubgoers; the acoustic-guitar based “Carefree American,” produced by Jean Baptiste; and “Alive,” helmed by Diplo. Kelis is currently in the studio with label head Will.i.am. [source]

Kelis has also collaborated with David Guetta on her first single “Acapella”, Brit-pop band La Roux, Free School and several more.

How do you think Flesh Tones is shaping up so far?

‘Eight songs may seem disappointing, but remember it’s quality over quantity that’s important so it might not be that bad.’

    - Not when albums are like £6.99/ 7 a time.

She could at least do 10.

But i thought dthat shewas going to do a double-disc album. So 4 tracks for one CD sounds really hilarious to me :D

Haha nah, the 2 CD thing wasn’t going to be a double disc album, it’s just something she’s been working on and she doesn’t know exactly what she’ll do with it yet.

And yeah Carl, she will have to give it a discount price if it’s only 8 songs

  • blackcanary

but maybe it will be more than 8 songs – I can’t imagine only 8 songs on an album (although gaga also did it with monster), but she’s in the studio working with will.i.am as told above, so maybe she’s doing some more songs … when will the album drop??

Sorry I just updated/changed the post.

One of my readers supposedly spoke to Jean Baptiste and he said that Billboard just heard an 8 track sampler, and that the album will contain more than 8 songs

yeah while I’m not so keen on “Acappella,” I can appreciate it but just not that into it, these other songs sound much more promising. And I really hope there’s more than 8 tracks. this blog has made me really interested in Kelis and what she can do! I’m excited!

on another note, “Blindfold Me” came on my ipod today and I was JAMMING! so great! that song will always be hot, she definitely soo ahead of the trends with that song. I may have to go through her back catalogue & get caught up on everything Kelis!
