Kelis is just a ‘Carefree American’ on Flesh Tone bonus track.

Kelis’ Flesh Tone album was released in the UK way back in May, but it’s only just coming up time for the album’s American release, which includes a special US bonus track “Carefree American”.

The Jean Baptise-produced song is a comment on American culture (surprise surprise), which Kelis explained to Rap-Up last December.

“It’s kinda like the back and forth between what we know that’s wrong with Americans and being in America, yet the things we love about it,” she continues, “and at the end of the day we don’t really sacrifice that much. I put myself in it as well; we are Americans and we like everything super-sized.”

“Carefree American” would’ve made a nice addition to Flesh Tone’s nine-song tracklisting, so it’s a bit of a shame that the rest of the world will miss out on it. The July 6 US release date of the album has obviously been timed in with the single “4th of July”, as well as the annual holiday itself, but I think Kelis could’ve benefited from putting all the different release dates a little closer together.

Take a listen to “Carefree American” below.

Sorry but im not feeling this at all. its just too repetitive.

  • Gogurl

This album flopped so hard, harder than Ciara, and Kylie combined.

  • JayCred

I second Jayk01. Thank god this track didn’t grace the album, would’ve made it not so near to perfect as it already is.

I’m thinking of picking up the album though.

  • Johnta

She cant sing even an ounce anymore.

  • boom.BOOM.P0W

    Shittin’ all over your faves.
ANd to the faggot bitch @Gogurl
FleshTone shit on BOTH Basic Wacksint & Kylie garbage ass album.

  • Yumm

I wish the album had more than 9 tracks this and a couple of the other tracks Billboard got to hear like “Kids” and “Alive” should’ve been on it

  • Luanne

I love this album! The only track I don’t love is “22nd Century” and I still like that one. I really love “Intro” though I wish it was actually given a title cause it’s a song, and definitely not an intro.

  • shutyomouthfoo

and this year will be the end of her career…lol jk.

  • tmm09

I understand why this track wasn’t included on the international version of the album. The overall message of the album is very postive and this song doesn’t fit the positivity of the album

  • Daniel

how is flesh tone going to debut in USA? it’s going to BOMB. split up release dates are so fucking stupid. all of kylie’s US releases suffer because of it (finally remedied for aphrodite) and she wolf was killed because of it.

  • Jayk01

well it a sad fact that the US is not forgiving to artists who step outside the box think of prince….

Kelis’s “Acapella” reached top five in the UK but the album couldn’t debut higher than number 40. She stands no chance in the U.S. seent that Acapella quite wrongly couldnt dent the hot 100.

  • Yumm

@ Luanne I also dislike 22nd Century…….. Scream and Emancipate……thats why I really wish there was more tracks on the album because that only leaves 6 tracks and I’m not a huge fan of the Intro so I really only like 5 which is annoying

  • boom.BOOM.P0W

Ya’ll bitches acting like y’all physics are some shit. Kelis really doesn’t give 2 fucks about sales so I don’t know why u superficial retarded, no taste in music rejects are so concern. Flesh Tone is the best album dance album to drop this year and no other album will top it. It’s received rave reviews overseas and will receive the same in the U.S.

  • Luanne

@Yumm well I basically love all the tracks, so 9 decent tracks is good enough for me, but I can see why it can be crappy for others. But, “Emancipate” and especially “Intro” are great! Maybe you should give them another shot. I even like the album version of “Scream”.

    song for the baby<3

  • stieg

i like it. thanks. happy 4th of july!

  • Jayk01

@boom.Boom.Pow if Kelis gets dropped from her label then she will care about album sales.

The truth is there are some good songs on the album e.g. Acapella, Brave, Song for the Baby, 4 of July and then 22nd Centuary & Scream which are just ok. The rest are Kack. The main problem is it doesn’t sound authentic espicially with the sudden image change and comes accross contrived. she should have gone for a softer dance fused R&B sound. To be fair this album isn’t really about the music. Every song is a tribute to her son and everysong carries a motherly sentiment. Kelis is basically saying “f*ck off i dont care, this is my life and my son is the most important thing” with this album.

Carefree American is definately not fitting with the rest of the album.

  • Prince

talk to me when she starts to make real music again this is crap so is the rest of fleshtone how is this the same woman who made marathon and rolling trhough the hood she sold out and floped hard this is what happens when you don’t cater to your ture fans which i am one of them

  • JayCred

@ Prince, that’s sad. You’re supposed to embrace the artist for any artistic change, whether you like it or not.

The album is not crap, considering it’s trance/dance music and actually has meaning behind it. To each his own, but this album is definitely one of the better releases this year.

  • boom.BOOM.P0W

    @Jayk01
    “Doesn’t sound authentic”
Please get the knife and stab yourself in the face repeatedly. Flesh Tone doesn’t sound ANY album thats out now. ANd the sudden image change? Really? Kelis has been switching it up since 1999!
Kelis is not like your fave who stick to one boring image. Kelis switches her image constantly and she pulls it off EFFORTLESSLY! The wack whores u stan for could NEVER do it. Lame whores.

  • Ina

See the problem with Kelis is that she has a lot of jock riders around her no one tells her that she can not sing and her songs suck. She has created this box around herself and thinks she has talent that just does not exist. It’s Ova in a recession no one has extra money to waste of elephant shit.
