Katy Perry performs on ‘Idol’ and readies next single

Katy Perry was on American Idol tonight to perform chart topping hit “E.T.” with Kanye West. She pulled out all the big guns for performance, dressing up in a flashing intergalactic bodysuit, enlisting a small troupe of alien backup dancers, and stuffing the stage full of fancy props, but the performance still wasn’t much different than the video — all style, no substance.

The bodysuit seemed to hinder her movement even more than usual, and with all the theatrics everywhere things ended up looking like a Britney Spears Femme Fatale era performance. But if she was actually singing live and not miming to a pre-recorded ‘live’ backing track, then I have to give her credit for sounding great, which actually makes up for a lot of the aforementioned.

In other news, some remixers and radio stations are Tweeting that “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” will be the next single from Perry’s Teenage Dream album. I don’t think you could possible choose something better than this as the fifth Katy Perry single: It’s enormously radio-friendly, catchy, and easily one of the best cuts from the hit-and-miss Teenage Dream. I’d easily rate it as one of the best songs she’s ever done, and I don’t think a fifth consecutive number one single for Katy is out of the question now.

    I think it was pretty cool, the dance was whatever for her good for the dancers she is not a dancer anyway I don’t care about it I actually enjoy it is the tour perfomance with cool outfits so is cool.

    I think this performance might be enough for “ET” to regain the top spot again.

    Like I have said before, she has:
    “Circle the Drain”
    “Peacock”
    “Not Like the Movies”
    and “TGIF” left as possible top 10-top 5 singles.

    I like “TGIF.” It’s definitely not a #1 hit though– top 5 at best. She needs to wait and release it when Rihanna releases “Cheers.” One song for Friday and one for the weekend! LMAO How great would that be; hearing those two songs every 5 minutes while going on unhappily through bitchass Mondays-Thursdays.

    I really want Katy to get her 5th #1. She would break records and show EVERYONE that all you need are a pair of great tits, catchy lyrics, nice (simple) production, to become a musical star. You don’t need to think you’re the greatest thing music has ever had like Gaga or invent a new genre of music like Beyonce. HAHAHA!

    Seriously though I like Katy Perry. I stan for “Teenage Dream.” It’s yummy bumble gum bullshit music at best. And she’s hot as fuck. BOYS AND GIRLS WANT A TASTE OF THAT!

    For the summer, I want “Peacock” to be a single. I don’t care if it doesn’t hit #1. I want to hear people everywhere asking to see peacock! HAHA!

    you gotta have that oLd skooL britney swagger N rawk that stage…not just walk thru it all…do the costume, the set, N the dancers justice by owning it all as a performance.

    vocally, her voice did sound GREAT on some parts. however, she still Lacks that consistency thru out the entire song. when she hits it, she hits it, but in between naiLing those certain notes she does a lot of falling fLat.

    i just feeL Like her materiaL could be so better utiLized by someone eLse.

    TGIF? I’m really fucking irritated, actually. I love Teenage Dream, actually — I like Katy a lot — but I cannot believe she’s releasing that song. TGIF is about what Christian girls like Katy think that others do on Friday nights. I can’t believe they’re not going to release The One That Got Away. That song is so fucking incredible. Ugh!

    hit and miss? geez I love your site and all but you must be out of your mind, you praise Rihanna’s loud which is a total uncohesive mess, and I believe you called Teenage Dream a bunch of songs piled together to make up for a body of work, sorry but Teenage Dream is brilliant, and if it would’ve been hit and miss it would’ve gone in oblivion by now and Katy is showing no signs of stopping.
    The performance was incredible.

    I do agree on the fact she’s changing the way people prefer buying singles instead of albums. In fact, I guess her whole album as such doesn’t make sense since it is not cohesive. It’s just a bunch of separate catchy tunes that will get everybody ready for the party!
