Kat Graham covers Paula Abdul’s “Cold Hearted”.

Most of you probably know actress Kat Graham from the CW’s Vampire Diaries, but she also has a second career, moonlighting as an aspiring pop star and producer in her spare time.

Kat’s released a few small singles here and there, but for her latest effort she’s gone and tackled one of my favorite 80s tunes by covering the Paula Abdul classic “Cold Hearted” (now with the added “snake” on the end). Kat’s given her version a significant overhaul, keeping the 80s vibe but also revamping it with a little electro, and completely re-writing the verses, only keeping Paula’s hook and bridge in place.

It’s a great cover, and made even better by the fact that Kat produced it herself, but I do have one complaint — she ditched the rap! Anyway, I hope Kat starts a trend and we get more and more of these hot young things covering Paula’s classics. There’s a lot of great tunes that singers today could be rehashing and ripping off from those 1-and-a-half albums that Paula was flawless for.

Random Paula trivia: “Cold Hearted” was the third consecutive #1 single from Paula’s debut, Forever Your Girl, which topped the US charts and sold over 12 million copies worldwide.

    Didn’t really enjoy the cover. Lyrics in the verse were weak!

    The verses are kind of lame. And she sounds bored singing it. I grew up with Paula, so I could be a bit biased, but I love the original! I also like the strings section in the original. This version is a little thin on the instrumentation.

    i like the original better!…..and it may be silly but i have always wanted Britney to cover it i know she would make it as good as the original song

    I know and love Katerina from Vampire Diaries (she’s my favorite char actually) but I had no idea she was involved in music. This is interesting. I like it but don’t absolutely love it. I’ll be sure to try and hunt down some of her other stuff. I am very interested to find out her range.
