I just saw the video of Jolin performing this song live and she KILLED it. It amazes me how she is able to pull off cd-quality live vocals while still being able to keep up with her back-up dancers. I stan hard for Jolin Tsai from this day forward.

I think Gaga is the one who resurrected that trend of being the gay friendly popstar (in an over the top fashion of course). Gaga has also become really huge in China and Taiwan (even a popular phrase was started in china. “oh my gaga”). I know its wrong of me to think this but I can’t help but think that this song was a way for Jolin to compete with Gaga.

When you boil it down, she’s what Gaga should have been. But the west being pretentious and excessive is unable of producing a pop star who refines their craft or can make a social message without it becoming a haphazard mess. Although, I’d also argue this is how Britney could have matured as a pop artist.

I have this album, I got the Muse of Love version. Its massive, its bigger than T-ara’s Breaking Heart album. Only problem is the tracklist is all screwed up from bad translations.

I hope she releases Beast/Eternity as her next MV

All her music videos from this album have been on point, though I think my favorite is still “Dr. Jolin”. It’s equal parts quirky and fun, colorful and stylish, and does away with many gender stereotypes. She reminds me of a Stripped-era Christina Aguilera, except much classier, solely based on how revolutionary and socially forward-thinking all her themes and visuals have been.
