Hello Venus’ weird/fun/awesome new single, “What Are You Doing Today?”
I enjoyed Hello Venus‘ first two singles, “Hello Venus” and “Like a Wave”, but the group itself hasn’t really grabbed me. That could change soon, because their latest single, “What Are You Doing Today?”, is somewhat flawless and surprisingly interesting.
Produced by Cho Young Soo, who not only did T-ara’s hits, “Cry Cry” and “Day by Day”, but also Orange Caramel’s “A-ing”, “What Are You Doing Today?” is a peculiar mix of pop-rock and bubblegum. It doesn’t follow the typical structure of most pop songs, which combined with Hello Venus’ overflowing aegyo, makes it one big bundle of cute ‘n’ quirky fun.
You’d expect to hear a song like this from Orange Caramel, but OC would’ve made it absurdly kitschy. Hello Venus’ are trendy enough to inject some cool into their cuteness, which gives this a fresher, hipper feel. The music video is also pretty awesome, and is definitely worth watching to see the newly-blonde Lime looking like a liposuctioned Sunny.
So, great song, and great video, but I still don’t find Hello Venus to be as fascinating as their music. All I really get from them so far is that they’re ridiculously pretty, and that’s it. Hopefully they’ll grow on me with some more amazing singles like this one, because I’d love to love them.
Perhaps a scandal involving Yoonjo will do the trick?
