Girls’ Generation brings the heat to ‘Live! With Kelly’

Fresh from their wig snatching performance of “The Boys” on The Late Show with David Letterman last night, Asia’s finest Girls’ Generation brought the heat to America’s favorite morning show Live! With Kelly.

Unlike on Letterman, the girls performed the original edit of the song without the electro-backed dance breaks. They also had a much bigger stage, so they weren’t dancing on top of each other and almost crashing into pianos like Letterman.

Oh yeah, and they were also interviewed!

I think I liked the interview more than the performance, because it was so surreal to see Girls’ Generation actually on morning TV in America chatting and joking with Kelly Ripa like it was no big deal. They came off really well –much better than I expected– and there were no awkward moments or funny Engrish that would’ve provided instant fodder for the haters.

The performance itself was great with a lot of live vocals, but the crew at Live! With Kelly obviously aren’t used to filming nine girls at one time, so they just opted to pan out a lot, almost skipping close ups all together. I was a little disappointed to see them not do the remixed version from Letterman, but they seemed more confident performing the original, so it worked out for the best.

Sadly, this is the final performance from SNSD’s mini US promo blitz, but they will be on Extra TV soon for an interview.

I miss the Divine Nine already!

i like the remix they used for the david letterman show. it reminded me
of the mama remix which i love. and i do miss the energy they had in the
david letterman show. but this was still a good performance. much more in sync, too.

but it’s great that the girls got to talk during these promotional trip.

i’m aslo glad that the cameraman chose to just pan out than do a
close-up of the wrong person. and at this point, what’s more important
is that the people know of the group and what they can do, and not the
    individual members.

  • HotBitch

the interview was really fun to watch. i think im in love with tiffany right now. did she say ‘pop your booty’?

  • Astroboi09

oh wow! what happened to the layout of my comment? sorry for that.

and forgot to mention that they performed a shorter version. these girls are really working hard. i’m sure it’s hard trying to remember different versions even if it’s basically the same song.

  • Benners

omfg the girls SLAYEDDDDDDDDD im like fangay screaming!! they did so well!!!! american girl groups have no idea!!!! and the interview… i cant even!!!

  • tommie

Major US promo and no sign of it on iTunes? What a massive flop it must’ve been for these never-was cunts!

  • Laz

What are you talking about? If you even bothered to search Girls’ Generation on iTunes then you’d see the album is there. It’s not an english album if that’s what you were looking for.

  • KingBeaArthur

    Tiffany’s moment with Howie  >>>>>>>>>>>>>>

It’s amazing how much of a difference a bigger stage & better camera work makes! Letterman…*side eye*

And get those cheers Queen Hyoyeon!!!!! <3

  • xxx

Guess he/she meant, there is no sign of them on the charts

So what, personally, i think that Song isn’t Even good nor where the Performances that great. The only ones, who could crack the us are 2ne1 anyway…

The song was released months ago on iTunes and it went top fifty, but this isn’t even an official US debut anyway. They aren’t trying to make the song a hit. They video and song were released in English back in October. They’re not pushing it at radio or anything.

They only came to perform for fun because they’re so popular around the world now. In a week they’ll be performing in Paris.

The only K-Pop acts making offiical US debuts right now are Wonder Girls and 2NE1.

The English version of “The Boys” was released digitally 4 months ago on ITunes with the start of their promotions of “The Boys” Korean album in Korea.  It reached #52 on the (main) US Itunes Top 1000 Singles chart.

The promotions that SNSD is doing this week in the US is for their physical US Album release of ‘The Boys” that was released on January 17th, 2012 (which I dont expect to sell much – maybe around 5,000 – 6,000 since most of the album is in Korean).

It looks dumb having all those broads for such a basic song#Koreafails

im sure some of the band members are american born?

The vibe and friendly atmosphere (Fanchants !!!!) was much better here than in David Letterman Show. I like also they got a little interview which is also nice.

But I prefer the performance on the Letterman Show than this one on Kelly Ripa Show.  The performance on the Letterman Show was much ‘edgier’ due to them doing the remix version and the vocals sounded better (because of the loud backing track used on the Letterman show).

But all-in-all, this short stint in the US can be considered a huge success.  SNSD showed they can perform on the big stage of the US, their ‘live’ performances here in the US has been universally praised and their performance on Letterman is going viral right now.

Even if they sell nothing more in the US, they get some ‘cred’ they can bring back to Asia which will further raise their stature there.  And maybe in the future the girls will do a real US debut.

  • Ruthymon

    Yes, Tiffany and Jessica

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/WWZG7BQSH2OQPQMJXMBYTQRPQU Ghdksd

Tiffany and Jessica were born/raised in the US, so both speak English fluently.  Sunny was also born in the US, but moved to Kuwait when she was still a baby and doesnt speak English well.

Untalented, lazy hacks like Rihanna and Katy Perry could never and need to GTFO. All of the wigs have been snatched. The interview was sooooo cute!

  • Darwin

Bring bring the GIRLS OUT TO USA!!!
They could slay everyone an this is the most western single they have so this could work for them here.

  • Matthew

Oh wow. I don’t really like KPOP, but this shit is awesome! Def a fan.

  • http://twitter.com/ThatBoyLuke luke Marriott

This is just plain hate… get a grip.

  • http://twitter.com/ThatBoyLuke luke Marriott

I wouldn’t say they “slayed” but it was a good performance, much better than the other one although the dance breaks were pretty cool.
I dunno if it’s because there are so many of them or just because (IMO) the clothes look kinda budget but i’m not sucked into the whole SNSD cult…

The interview was really cool though, it was nice of them to do that and they weren’t condescending like some people would have been. Sooyoung is definately my fave lol

  • KoreanDream

Americans think SNSD murdered the stage…imagine if TVXQ or the Brown Eyed Girls came over. Lord.

  • Anonymous

    Lmao so true!

  • RealOne

Still no1 would curr…all that promotion and they are still in the 500s on Amazon…smh

  • Hottiger33

    Your soooooooo cute!!!!!

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/WWZG7BQSH2OQPQMJXMBYTQRPQU Ghdksd

If you are just talking about the Amazon charts, SNSD’s The Boys (US Version) reached as high as the 40′s on the Amazon Top 100 Album Charts in the first 2-3 days that it went on sale after January 17th.

Below is a screencap of it :

They are definitely the BESTS! GG takes over US!!!

It’s hard enough walking and talking at the same time let alone sing a song while dancing a complicated choreographed steps… People who think otherwise are either in denial or dumber than a door knob…

  • http://twitter.com/HyunAKnowles HyunA Knowles

You have no idea how awful it is to see SNOOKI after seeing 9 beautiful girls that are SNSD.

Love the performance, although it was too short. But the interview made up for it. They were so cute and adorable.

Okay now people, let’s Squat, Pop, and Walk Walk Walk Walk Walk!

  • Lilheartmusic

    Spot on mate.

  • tjoz

I like this one over yesterdays Letterman performance. It was more laid back and friendly and they are back to their normal costumes for ‘The Boys’. Kelly Rippa would probably be the best person to interview SNSD in English, she keeps it friendly and light.

SNSD dont sit too well with a full on sexy image (like yesterdays one). They are a group that dont need to go down that path. Its just not them.

  • mimifan

    snooki LOL!

  • prisdary mariano

thx u. im so so so tired to repeat the same thing over and over again.
