G.NA is the most annoying woman in K-pop. She’s the epitome of that random nice person in your life who technically has nothing wrong with them, yet they just irritate the shit out of you for no real reason in particular. Seriously, every time you think G.NA is finally okay, she’ll go and do something totally stupid like give her English-language album a French-language title, or wear a really unflattering wig.
Despite her supreme annoyingness, G.NA’s still released some pretty good songs over the years. I always like her stuff, but her latest single, “Oops!,” is probably my favorite yet.
For “Oops!,” she’s toned down the try-hard sex appeal from last year’s Hyori wannabe hit, “2HOT,” and gone for a really refreshing flirty concept — both musically and stylistically. G.NA’s got the kind of look that’s too… something to be a boring ballad singer, but she’s never quite been able to pull off being a total sex siren either like HyunA, Ga-In, Hyosung, and many other babealicous female idols. With “Oops!,” she’s finally found the perfect concept to fit her somewhat awkward image. It’s sweet and coquettish, but still a little sexy — like a horny girl next door.
Cube Entertainment have shamelessly slapped one of the random dudes from their struggling new boy band, BtoB, onto “Oops!” in the hope that G.NA’s popularity will rub off on the group. Luckily, he sounds really good and matches the song, so it all works out. He may actually have more lines than G.NA does, making “Oops!” a bit like Mariah Carey’s “Triumphant,” if “Triumphant” didn’t suck.
“Oops!” is kind of flopping on the digital charts right now and getting its ass whooped by Girl’s Day’s comeback track, which is a bit of a shock considering how much more successful G.NA is than Girl’s Day. I really don’t know what the hell Koreans want. G.NA releases what is probably her best song since “Black & White,” and it’s flopping. Perhaps netizens feel that she didn’t flaunt her famous D-cup titties in the MV enough to warrant a download?
