Former PCD member Jessica Sutta spills on Nicole, Britney, her solo career and more

Former-PCD member Jessica Sutta seems pretty hell bent on letting the world know that she’s no longer a Pussycat Doll, chatting with ABC news for what is now her third official interview this week.

The 27-year-old talks about breaking her rib, stepping out of Nicole Scherzingers shadow, her upcoming solo album which will feature an “alter-ego” theme, and she even tells a cute story about touring with Britney Spears in which she calls the pop superstar an “amazing mother”.

Unfortunately if you’re expecting this Pussycat to get her claws out you’ll be disappointed, with Jess suddenly skimming over some of the more scandalous details of her PCD ordeal and instead choosing to focus on the good times.

Her warm words for Flopzinger do seem a bit out of place though, especially since Jessica was just quoted as saying this to Life & Style:

“Nicole is a star, and she wanted to be treated like one. The Pussycat Dolls were Nicole’s world, and everything that Nicole says goes. If you liked a certain top and Nicole liked it too, she would take the top. She’s the star. We had to support her in every way. It was Nicole’s world, and we were just living in it.”

Make up your mind girl! Is Flopzinger a loving supportive sister or ambitious egomaniac?

Now who here thinks that Jessica needs to re-think her solo album concept of having an “alter-ego”? Sasha Fierce anyone? Mimi, Damita Jo, Mona Lisa, Super Ci? Alter egos are played out!

she mustve been served with a C&D

She’s really pretty too. I need me a girl like that, real nice. Sad thing is I do think she got in trouble too marymag, because this just sounds like one of their regular interviews when she was still with them.

Even though they did her dirty I still love Nicole. My thing is we knew it wouldn’t last. They knew when they signed up that they would be backup dancers/singers. I don’t see the point of them being mad about about not getting enough shine time. Jess can be mad though cause they did her real triflin. But in Nicole/Robin’s defense why the hell she ain’t have a house to go to?

  • antagonist

She was either served with a C&D or was told she sounded bitchy (and it wouldn’t be good for her come back)…unfortunately, when women criticize other women, the world writes it off as “catty”, even if the criticism is deserved…

I don’t know that the pcd girls knew they’d be back-up singers for nicole when they signed on; they may have thought they’d be equals, then the truth set in when they started recording/releasing songs. Or they may have been told that nicole would be lead on the first album because she had prior experience the others lacked, and they’d get more exposure on the second album when they had more experience…there are a lot of ways this could have gone down.

Now, any new girls that sign up with pcd will DEFINITELY know that they are just back up dancers/singers.

I’m still advocating blaming management (robin anton).

It’s better for jessica and the other girls to move on if they are unhappy. Good luck to them.

And yes, the alter ego thing is played out. Not just because of the albums with alter egos (you forgot hannah montana/miley cyrus, and chris gains/garth brooks); there is also a celebrity photographer that does alter ego photographs, and did a series of photos for a reality tv show (real housewives of atlanta).

Point is: once a concept is being used by train wrecks on reality tv, it is really really really played out.

you missed up Vicky Valentine the alter ego of Ashlee Simpson and Lola from Jennifer Lopez

I like Jess… her solo single on the Doll DOmination was the best

  • mimifan

bla bla bla, just shut up and do your singing!
i think u will flop big time!

    team nicole!

  • eliza dare

    any doll is duff

  • Katie

    lol, attention whore

from the beginning the other dolls known what they were doing and what will happen
they should left with Carmit in classy way and now they’re talking shit
I loved Pussycat Dolls, but after that I just can’t stand them

    TEAM NICOLE

  • http://www.theprophetblog.net The Prophet

I don’t know if they actually did know how bad it would be.

Sure there was a lead singer, but they probably didn’t think that meant they would be INVISIBLE!

You can still have a lead singer but also give the other members some solos and some screen time etc.

It was basically Nicole as a solo act

  • Kelly

I do not think that they knew that they would have to sing nothing because when you hear group it means that everybody sings a party of the song and not an only one sings and the others dance. Otherwise it is called a singer and her dancers and not a group.

  • Andy

Doll Domination should have been “Nicole Dommination” or “Nikkie’s flop show”

I started to hate on Nicole when I saw the video’s from DD, but when I went to their concert, I fell in love with her again for a few days cause she loooked so hot in real, anyway it’s probably a good thing they broke up, cause there is no way the next PCD album will be a succes.

btw it’s so sweet of her talking nice about Britney.

For some reason, the whole “if u liked a top and nicole liked the top too, she’d take it” quote reminded me of Mean Girls! lol.

but what yall are saying about how she didn’t know she was going to be invisible. I honestly think they knew. From the beginning of time, in every girl group, the lead singer is always going to be the star. The only succesful girl group i can think of where each had equal roles are in groups that either are 2 girls, or if one sings another raps/harmonizes (TLC, 3LW) but every girl group has their leads. and how would she expect to be on a record when there were like 7 girls. Songs on the radio are 3 and a half minutes long and i’m sure not all of the girls would have time to squueze in a verse. However, even if she did think maybe she could sing a verse, the lead singer will always outshine. Take Destiny’s Child’s last album, Destiny Fulfilled, for example. On that record, each girl had their own verses in every song. But Beyonce still had the most words. i just think if i was to be in a group with 6 other girls and my management told me that they already had a lead singer, I wouldn’t expect to have much of a voice.

  • Katie

Robin never hide what’s formula of PCD, Nicole + the other dolls, this was clear from the beginning

well okey I feel what she meant but damn she choose probably the worst way to show it
the same with Kim and Melody
why they’re talking bullshit on Nicole? this only shows what persons they really are, Nic always keep it classy, for her they always were sisters lol

they aren’t in the group anymore so they can talk whatever they want? :/
I feel bad for Nicole that she had to work with fake people like them ;)

  • Bibi

    Team Nicole !!! =)

  • http://twitter.com/AalexisR AalexisR (Bahamas)

    @Dre,

You do understand the difference between being the star of the group and being the an artist with a band. This is supposed to be a recording group (GROUP) not Nicole and the back dolls.

  • antagonist

    @ Dre

You (and others) keep making this assumption that all the girls came into the group situation with full knowledge that nicole would be lead, and they would fit in where they could.

The problem is, you have no reason to believe this.

All we know for certain, is that nicole became the lead by the time they were recording, and has remained the lead since. And that most of the other dolls are displeased with this arrangement.

There is no evidence whatsoever to suggest that the other girls were signed with the knowledge that nicole was lead and they were signing up to be backup dancers.

Now a more legitimate question is, why did it take them until now to speak up if the arrangement was a problem?

My theory is that they weren’t happy, but they were making money, and hoping to get a chance to stand out. They are leaving now that its become clear that getting out of Nicole’s shadow within the pcd will never happen.

Also, I’d like to amend my previous contention that robin anton is entirely responsible for pcd becoming a nicole one woman show: I found out that pcd, being “employees” of Interscope are heavily controlled by the label. So I wonder if it was the label that decided nicole was the only “doll” that mattered.

I think that she is still trying to uphold her part in PCD. I’m sorry but she has to have a love/hate relationship with the group because on one end she wasn’t able to show her indivisuality plus the whole Nicole thing is just a mess; but on the different end she can’t say it didn’t open any doors or anything like that for her because to be honest it did. Like she she said she traveled the world and met people that she didnt think she would meet and she got a real taste at fame now she is just trying to sustain that. To be honest, I think all of them are very talented singers and dancers (some alittle bit better than others but who am I to judge?). I wish her the best of luck.

I think that Jimmy Lovine who is likethe big cheese at interscope has a vested interest in Nicole since her time with Eden’s Crush, he probably hoped the dolls would Nicole that extra publicity to gain a prominent solo career, which did not happen, so now she vested her thwarted solo efforts into the pussycat dolls new album, now they are trying agin with her solo career, which I think will flop again because people just dont see the point of it when the pussycat dolls is essentially the Nicole show anyway! Are we really to believe that if her solo career was a success, she would remain with the dolls? Cos I don’t. In the meantime the girls ahve gained alot of sympathy from fans because they blame nicole (or the management) for holding them back while putting Nicole in the limelight and I think if the quality is good enough they will have successful solo careers, but I’m willing to bet that their replacements will be told to smile and keep their mouths shut about the overemphasis on Nicole. Which of course will mean that the third album will flop. The management just does not listen to fans, they know Nicole is talented, but she has been shoved in their faces so much that they are sick of her and want to see what the other girls have to offer! The third album, no matter who has left and who is in it, needs a balance of vocals, Nicole could still be the lead singer, but it needs to be more equal, however I doubt Nicole or the management will let that happen!

Hi, just read your blog and thought iy was cool. Im plenty interested, but i have a question: what authors did your read while you were researching this? Thanks Jim

  • Mandy

I love Jessica, and I’m sure she’ll do great on her solo album. Nicole is alright, I see her on dancing with the stars (she’s good) but… Have you guys seen her live? She sucks. I think Jessica will do better. White Lies (Paul Van Dyk) and Make it Last (Dave Aude) sung by Jessica reached number one. And some of Nicole’s songs… Don’t sound too great. Well, that’s my opinion at least. But I hope they’re both with their careers.
