[Exclusive] Interscope Records has big plans for Girls’ Generation

Yesterday I got some insider goss on Asia’s biggest girl group that was just too good not to share with my fellow K-Poppers.

After successfully introducing Girls’ Generation to American audiences earlier this year, Interscope Records is now determined to turn the girls into global superstars, and it’s all thanks to Interscope chairman Jimmy Iovine. The label boss was impressed with the way the girls handled themselves when they made their US TV debut in late January, and now he’s convinced that they have what it takes to go international.

Now that pop groups are becoming big in the States again, Iovine’s made Girls’ Generation a “top priority” at Interscope. Not only will they have access to the biggest producers that the label has to offer, but he’s also planning to have them work with some lesser-known names to try and find the best sound for the group. In short: everyone is going to be submitting material for the SNSD album.

The plan is to have the girls focus on their Korean and Japanese activities for the rest of the year, while they quietly prepare for their international debut with an English album, which is tentatively due for release next year.

Interestingly enough, Jimmy has also been talking about 2NE1 after learning about the group through will.i.am. But despite all the international attention that 2NE1 has been receiving, Iovine seems to be more interested in Girls’ Generation and is throwing all of his support behind them right now, although he could end up being involved with 2NE1 in the future.

It’s not hard to see why Iovine has taken more of a liking to SNSD over 2NE1. With their stunning beauty and synchronized dance moves, they probably remind him a lot of the Pussycat Dolls, who he launched to pop stardom back in 2005.

So guys, be on the lookout for Girls’ Generation to make a major grab for global success next year. Who’s excited?

“With BoA, SM knows first-hand about a disasterous foray into the Western markets” thats why SM not fully force soshi to US market. thats why SM say it World Wide not just US :D . SM is money maker who have experience.

Of course Blackjacks have an inferiority complex in regards to Girls Generation.

    1) In their homeland of Korea, Girls Generation are national icons who are beloved while 2NE1 are just some music group

    2) In Japan, a big company like AVEX formed a partnership with YG in hopes in bringing YG artists like 2NE1 to Japan.  2NE1 have been releasing albums/singles in Japan for 1+ year now and despite all the tremendous promotion that have gotten, the Japanese audience have rejected them

    3) All BJ’s have been touting this Will.i.am collaboration for more than 2+ years now and ZERO has happened.  Meanwhile, SNSD signed with Interscope and already performed on national TV shows in the US and Europe.

It is an insult to Girls Generation to be even compared to 2NE1, when SNSD’s popularity is so far ahead, it isnt even a close contest.

  • Matthewlhy

As long as they are happy with their job, no matter in US or any places, I will forever support them.
More Kpop sense or americanized dont really affect me, I just want them to keep releasing new songs :)

  • Claire1497

As a SONE your post was insulting and very rude towards BJS and 2NE1. Just because 2NE1 is not doing hot in Korea or Japan as much as SNSD, that does NOT mean they will not be successful in America. No wonder other fandoms hate us… It was very unconsiderate to say all the things you said…

BETTER NOT MESS UP MY GIRLS.

But it’s the truth! He was just stating facts! If people can’t take the truth, tough!

  • Trevor Szuba-Schneider

everyone stands.  *round of applause*  Jimmy and Interscope always for some reason know what the hell they are doing.  thank GaGa someone does!

  • ju mong

    Please promote the girl well.

  • miloscytheyoona

Sone will support SNSD no matter what! SNSD! Just do what you want to do.

  • abubu

“For the popularity i am not sure but when i first heard about kpop(i think it was about an year ago or less) the first thing i found while googleing was snsd so they must be known a little more” a little more??? you gotta be kidding me…

  • Loveynoona

I Just love your perspective. And I agree with you!

  • NadaNadaNada

we didn’t know the future. so don’t talk shit ’bout SNSD or 2ne1

Lol and See with all these “International’ Promotions, SNSD Still Flops, and Even after SM Concert in Paris, and le grand journal performance, 2NE1 was Chosen as the Most Popular Kpop Group in France by korean Embassady out there, and Without any kind of promotion, 2NE1 has a HUGE fanbase in US that SNSD will never dream of having. SNSD are Popular in Korea, Japan (after Kara) and Some other Places in Asia, While 2NE1 are getting recognition after only 2 years since Debut FROM ALL AROUND THE WORLD!  lmfao go back to your Cave, Learn you fact then Come at me bro!

  • watiesudin

i will support snsd…either they at korea, japan, america or other country…and i will try my best to buy snsd all album…fighthing!!!

  • Saten-911

SNSD does have a large fanbase in US. as big as black jack in america. SNSD wasnt even in that list with the french embassy, they must have not been  in the poll. if 2ne1 wasnt in a most popular poll, you wouldnt believe it either and you would also think that 2ne1 must have not been included in the poll. SNSD will have a big fanbase, for CEO of interscope handling the debuts of some of the largest stars in america said, they have what it takes. he  owning the largest music producing company in the US wouldnt take artists who would have no foothold in america and he even thought that SNSD is better than 2ne1.

  • nikki

i’m well aware that SNSD sells more than anyone in Korea thank you. i meant that even though 2ne1 isn’t some poll they are still like the #2 selling girl group in Korea.

  • nikki

no i meant the sale numbers where 2ne1 outsells every other girl group on that poll except for SNSD.

  • Kpopper

I’m so excited for this! Blackjacks should just stfu, they’re the main reason I hate 2NE1. They keep saying sones are always picking a fight blah blah blah, but its them who keeps insulting SNSD and saying 2NE1 is the best and all. If 2NE1 is the best then why can’t they sell at least 200.000 copies of their album? Blackjacks just can’t accept the fact that 2NE1 is not the best girl group in the world, or in korea.

I’m more excited for 2NE1′s US debut.

Thats what was said about the Paradiso Girls

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1605936522 Michael Cristian Chavez

I agree BUT It was soooo creative and an artistic song! they deserved an album. and maybe a little more recognition

  • http://twitter.com/TunisianSones GirlsGenerationTunis

Keep on Soshi, keep on ♥♥ I AM DEFINITLY SOOOO EXCITED *-*

  • http://twitter.com/SommerBu Sommer

I can relate so much with out dear Prophet. When first finding out about K-pop, 2NE1 was the hottest edgiest bumpin music to please my ears at the time. And of course I stanned, but I NEVER disrespected other people biases, now I’ve moved on, Sistar is my ultimate bias right now, and to see how most (not all) blackjacks act like they’re group is all holy and superior to everyother group is ridiculous. Because if they were so damn great, why aren’t they accomplishing half the things Girls Generation are? Like I said I love Sistar, but I’m not fucking delusional. Snsd will probably always be better than them. So why can’t Blackjacks accept that Snsd are the better girl group, they’ve always been. Just Love 2NE1 and move on, I know you like to think your shit don’t stank, but really, look at how the rest of the world views your fanbase and maybe consider some of you are taking shit too far.

  • Joon Kyu Seo

I second his opinion. :) But I would like to express my opinions too, Im hinting that some people in the US might get curious to see who the heck is entering the US when the album is released.. and I think its a way to gain profits too. lol. lets just see what happens :)

  • Joon Kyu Seo

Basically a mirror of american pop reflected to S.Korea.. its basically cool and awesome yes. I agree to your opinion

  • Joon Kyu Seo

Are those not facts? If the truth will hurt everyone else around here, then just leave this site.. wth. This is the internet!

  • Joon Kyu Seo

So what do you call Soshified then? Lol. I will just clear out your fact about 2NE1′s debut.. Yes they got famous even before debut, but I think of it as an opportunity. YG saw it as a massive wave spreading overtime, every company took advantage of that wave. Yes, Halyu wave. 2009 was the ‘golden era’ of Kpop, where every song promoted is nice to hear, every group is unique and awesome. It was the time when Korean pop reaches out to Asia in an alarming rate. Thats how good it was.

So yes, 2NE1 was famous back then. But I think you should also thank the ‘Seniors’ who made it possible. :)

  • miz mieza

    nice joke :P
