Ellie Goulding talks ‘Bright Lights’, sophomore album and Rihanna.

Ellie Goulding is currently experiencing a career high with her most successful single to date “Your Song” (a cover of the Elton John classic) recently debuting at No. 3 in the UK. In a new interview to promote her upcoming ‘Lights‘ re-release album ‘Bright Lights‘, Ellie opens up about the “dancier” sound we can expect from her, as well as her official sophomore album and her thoughts on pop megastar Rihanna, who recently outed herself as an Ellie fan.
On the new songs on Bright Lights: A couple of them are songs I love that didn’t make the album because they didn’t quite fit in, but songs like ‘Human’ and ‘Animal’ came about because me and Starsmith, my producer, got back together for a couple of days and had a burst of creativity because we hadn’t seen each other in ages. There’s another new song I made with Fred Falke called ‘Home’, which I love.”
“They’re in the same vein [as Lights]. There’s dancier stuff on there, but then there’s ‘Human’ which is more Killers-esque because I went through a phase of loving the new Brandon Flowers album. They’ve all got quite big choruses too, which is the only type of song I usually listen to. Even the most obscure things I listen to have some sort of big moment or chorus.”
On her sophomore album: “I’ve been coming up with ideas, but I haven’t started anything yet because I’m wary that I want it to be a new thing. I’m really proud of Bright Lights because I was still in the mind frame of my first album when I was putting it together, but next time I want to display something different. I don’t want to be as young, immature and all about boys!”
On Rihanna: “Of course [I would want to work with her], she’s amazing! I think I’m going to cover one of her songs at some point actually. She has an amazing attitude and I can’t believe she’s on her fifth album. Loud is a great album and I knew as soon as I saw the video for ‘Only Girl (In The World)’ that it would be a huge hit, because, well, it’s one of the most beautiful videos in the world.”

Ah, an Ellie + Rihanna collaboration would be amazing. Rih proved herself to be quite an accomplished balladeer on Loud, and she could really take things to the next level with a tune penned by Ellie.
Anyway, Ellie’s Bright Lights sounds like it’s shaping up to be a fantastic addiction to an already great album. Bright Lights drops on November 29 in the UK so make sure you pick up a copy.
