Drake hooks up with Florence Welch and The xx.

Drake is after some of Kid Cudi’s hipster cred, revealing today that he’s teamed up with Jamie xx of UK indie trio The xx for his upcoming sophomore album Take Care.

“The praises I’ll sing most is definitely The xx and Jamie, and we’re working on Take Care together. Jamie is probably one of the most exciting producers I’ve ever heard,” he said.

If that wasn’t exciting enough, Drake is also working with Florence Welch of Florence + the Machine. The most surprising part is that the flame-haired songstress isn’t actually set to feature on Drake’s next album, but rather it’s going to be the other way round — Drake will feature on Flo’s upcoming sophomore effort. I know, I’m surprised too.

“We listened to all her new music and I picked which song I really want to get on,” he added.

This won’t be the first time Drake has played around with Flo before. The pair first met at the VMAs and got along like a house on fire, and this week they went out to dinner, and Flo joined Drake on stage during one of his UK shows to replace Alicia Keys’ verse on “Fireworks”.

Florence + the Machine’s Lungs = Flawless

The xx’s self-titled debut = Flawless

Good move, Drake.

LOL. I dunno but for some reason this made me remember Rihanna saying she wanted to work with some Alternative acts from The UK as well.
    Smart move Drake.

I’m not sure i’m comfortable with frake being on Florences album, not because he’s a rapper just because he’s shit. I mean… i guess Island wanna have a big mainstream hit on her next album to further crack the US, i just hope florence doesn’t let him detract from her musics credibility.

She’s better on Fireworks than Alicia is. I’d love her on his album but not sure about him on hers. I just got into her and Lungs. That album is perfect.

    I Love You, Flo :D

I mean y’all forget his roots….B4 YM his mixtapes showed him using tracks from overseas acts that aren’t exactly big (Lykke Li, anyone?) in the US/somewhat alternative acts. So I def don’t think its jus a fake move to be more popular…can’t wait to hear

p.s. When are we gonna get another James Blake post? You know thanks to your blog hes my new mini obsession lol

  • SerferTJ

I’m actually interested in what these two cook up! :D

And I might be alone on this but I’m SOOOOOOOOO glad that it’s gonna be on Florence’s album rather than Drake’s!

I mean EVERY time a more indie artist gets big over in the U.S, all the big rappers try to get a song with em trying to prove that they’re “innovative” and “creative”. Same thing that happened with M.I.A, Elly Jackson, Mr. Hudson.
    It’s gettin cliche…
