Crystal Castles release “Affection”, drag the s#%t out of Katy Perry

With the new Crystal Castles album only two weeks away from release (OMFG YASS!!!), the demented duo have premiered a new track from the disc online called “Affection”.

For a Crystal Castles tune, “Affection” is very urban. It’s still got the spacey vocals and dreamy, somewhat creepy electronica, but it’s layered over a hip-hop, 808 like drum beat. Replace Alice Glass with The Weeknd or Drake, and you could file this in the urban section of your local record store.

In other news, Alice tore Katy Perry a new one in the new issue of NME magazine when asked about the mainstream media’s portrayal of female artists (or something along those lines idk).

“We need an army because the mainstream hates women,” Glass says.

“I think a lot of kids are more sexualised now than they were now than they were years ago and I’m not sure it’s a coincidence,” she says. “Like fucking Katy Perry spraying people with her fucking dick, her fucking cum gun coming on fucking children. And little girls, like six-year-old girls wearing a shirt with ‘I wanna see your [pea] cock’ on it.”

She added: “Don’t prey on vulnerable people like that. Don’t encourage little girls to get dressed up, to have cupcakes on their tits to get people to lick them off ‘cos that’s what you’re insinuating.”

I love me some Katy Perry, and I even shed a tear during her 3D concert movie (which I went to alone — read about it here), but Alice just spat some truth and spilled some tea. No decaf!

I don’t know her but she told the damn truth. Music videos nowdays look more like porn and most of western songs are for either for sex or parties.

I was ready to get pissed at her for making comments about Katy but she’s got a point.

    I reluctantly agree…

her highest charting album was #188. LMAO, she’s pressed as fuck. and i cant blame her. i mean she’s poor, irrelevant, ugly and Katy is a global superstar, tied MJ for most #1′s in one album, she has a #1 album. one of the best selling record superstars, hit movie. im really sorry crystal or whatever’s your name, because no one knows you. http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m41aygNfBB1r15uyio2_r4_250.gif

Crystal Castles is a critically acclaimed duo, not one person. People who actually listen to music outside of Katy Perry’s top forty bubble know who they are. Their debut album was ranked one of the best of the decade. And katy tied MJ coz she sold her songs for 10 cents on iTunes. Just because an artist isn’t a total sellout like Katy and sells million of records (keep in mind I am a katy fan) doesn’t mean their opinion is irrelevant. Crystal Castles have had many opportunities to sell out and they haven’t done it, while Katy changed her entire sound and image to get to the top of the charts. CC should be respected for that

It’s a parent’s responsibility to monitor what their children are exposed to. I am sick of people assuming that pop stars have to be these picture perfect role models for millions of children. It doesn’t work that way. The music industry is a business and sex sells. Perhaps parents should be blamed for exposing their children to such. Artists are just trying to make a living.

the difference here is that Katy is targeting this audience. Her album was called “TEENAGE Dream”. Usually I agree with your sentiments but in this case it’s a bit different.

  • haggie

btw the lotus album previews are out.

you just made yourself look stupid by saying that, i hope you know that. Teenage is Not anywhere younger than 14 or 15, her album was called TEENAGE Dream right? then thats what her album and music is ‘supposed’ to be pushed upon. you have parents who let it fly cuz Katy is Literally wearing cotton candy, ice cream, milk duds, cupcakes and all the other peices of wreakage from when she demolished and caused world war III in Candy Land in the “california gurls’ video.it gets a slide because of her costume choice of candy and how pretty she is. it baffles me. music is way different than it was years ago and it pisses me off when u have lyrics like this and compare it to the backlash of Britney or Christina circa 1998-2000 when the clothes were less(yet still) revealing and lyrics were still innocent and you had parents going in on them saying they were bad influences on children. *eye roll* Katy and all the other pop stars these days (which excludes the WOMAN in pop like britney, xtina, madonna and even beyonce) ARE inspirations to these kids because it gives kids a reason to dream in the first place regardless of the content or costumes but parent have to also listen to what the artist is saying aswell. i couldnt trust a 27 y/o chick(besides taylor swift) to not say something profound or provocative. in my honest opinion which can vary from others Bey, Brit, Janet and Madge are allowed to talk about what ever because they have the years in. as a Britney fan, britney got boycotted for wearing revealing clothes when honestly britney didnt start talking about sex publicly or in music until “In The Zone” even at that time and even NOW (whether she writes or contributes to it at all) was subtle and metaphorical

A parent can only control so much. How does a child avoid this kind of stuff when it’s all over TV, radio, magazine covers, internet, advertisements, and everyone at school is flaunting it?

It’d be a different story if these artists weren’t marketed directly to children, but they are and that’s their demographic. Go to a Katy Perry or Rihanna concert and you will see majority of the ppl will be teenage girls and tween girls. When I went to Ke$ha literally it was all little girls dressed as prostitutes.

  • WTF

What about the part of the interview where she said the Lotus previews slayed her life and that everyone should pray to christina snatchyourwiguilera ??

    L.M.F.A.O! I love them already <3

    1. teenagers are between 13 and 19, but with the whole tween movement (and thanks to tumblr, glee and onedirection), you’re getting kids who are as young as 7-9 trying to fit into this age group. when you target teenagers, you’re really targeting people a whole lot younger than that.

    2. i really want to go in on you more but i have no idea what the rest of your comment is saying.

  • Andi

Wow. You my dear sir or madam (or cunt) are the definition of a delusional stan. Get your head out off the Top 40′s asshole and learn a thing or two about other types of music.

  • Andi

What cracks me up about this is that many pop artists cite Crystal Castles as a source of inspiration, which proves that their influence is far reaching. Alice Glass can be a bit much at times, but at least she’s completely unapologetic about what she says or does.

Speaking of artists who have stated that they are influenced by Crystal Castles, do you think you’ll do a review of Kazaky’s debut album, Proph? It’s pretty good. I’m particularly fond of “Game Over” and “Barcelona”.

  • iAmJayDO

Sorry, but I got to disagree there. Until I hit 8th grade, I had no idea about any type of music that wasn’t really gospel, Bob Marley or MIssy Elliott and that was only because my parents really never exposed me to that stuff when I was so young. I would hear kids talking about Madonna and 50 Cent and stuff but had absolutely no idea who these people were until a bit into high school. Sure, that’s just one person… but it’s not like they put four walls up around me to keep it out my life or anything. It’s just music. It’s not that hard NOT to be exposed to it.

jealous bitch!!! katy is pretty and famous, they are only acclaimed
    who is laughing now?

  • gotgotgone

I don’t think she was coming at just Katy but more what Katy and other pop girls like her represent. I am also sick of people saying its the parents job to monitor everything the child does when in this day and age its nearly impossible.
Im loving the song affection and cant wait for the album release its been too long.

  • Notaclevername

Look, in TEENAGE Dream, she role-plays a teenager, which, I mean, fine. Just fine. I really don’t care. But then she acts as a teenager who is a raging slut, which makes a difference. Just because teens aren’t innocent doesn’t mean this is a good thing.

  • SerferTJ

    I agree!
One of my biggest gripes with Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj is not only the way they are over sexualized, but that they CLEARLY market that to children.

Even though Rihanna is classless and over sexualized, at least she looks like an adult while slutting it up, and she’s been upfront (as of late) about not trying to be a role-model.

  • mimifan

now she’s is really talking! i am a fan!

  • http://twitter.com/KamHarvStar Kamau Harvey

I never seem to comment well on social sites forgive me for that. i ramble.lol what you guys are saying is what i was failing to saying. its not her but its artists in general like Katy or Rih or even jessie j who, in all honesty, are targeted to teens. teens usually influence the youth to listen to the music weather they know it or not. i was saying its easy for parents to overlook Katy because of her candy costumes, neon blue hair and personality rather than parents actually reviewing the content.
My second statement was comparing britney(who i stan 4) and other musicans who were boycotted for being too revealing or provocative to Katy. Britney(im sure you already know) had mothers boycotting her music because they didnt like her appearance because it was deemed too sexy. You have a girl like Katy talking of Kissing girls(i kissed a girl), how sex with a lover is so good its outta this world(ET), how messed up she got on a Friday and how she could give no fucks about the outcome(Last Friday Night) and last but not least being the reason teen boys are sexually frustrated(Teenage Dream) whereas Britney waited 4 albums to mention sex. Britney mention sex in a subtle and classy way lyrically on various songs on In The Zone yet on Teenage Dream those songs and many other songs in Katy’s discography its obvious.

  • Queen

lmao they dont have the it factor, even if they sell out they wont sell those records. many have tried only a few have succeeded. and katy didnt completely change her sound. i mean she has always been pop. even in OOTB she was just pop-rock. how is that a 360 change? if people knew who they are then why arent they in the charts? the xx is a great example, they arent sell outs but they debuted in the top 10. they should figure out how to make money, how to sell their records. they can make a point without bringing down other people, but they did. i hope they’re happy about what they did. instead of concentrating on their album, they’re trashing other artists. brava! they are really doing well for themselves. anyway, this is clearly a publicity stunt to get their name out there, i mean their releasing their album and trashing one of the world’s biggest musicians ofc the media is gonna eat this up and maybe, maybe…. their album will officially enter the top100

  • shady1

Proph as sexy as you are you went to a movie alone? I would have got you a movie and dessert#justsayin’….but back to the topic yes she spilled the real tea, kool-aid and gatorade.

  • theprophetblog

    Thanks! xo

  • theprophetblog

The xx music is far more mainstream and widely accessible than Crystal Castles. Also, Katy sold out well before OOTB. She wanted to be the next Alanis Morrisette and instead had to settle for singing about kissing girls coz all the labels she went to dropped her.

  • “FASCINATING”

Everything about Crystal Castles has always been boring to me. Their “influence and reach” quota just serves to show how uneducated people are about chiptunes and noise culture. The only reason this band is relevant to anyone is because at one point Alice Glass was the Lana del Rey of 2006 hipsters.

It’s ironic that she talks about sexualization of female acts when the sole reason for her success comes from that as well.

Also whenever someone says “[x] is way worse now than it used to be” always ends up looking like a dumbass. Madonna had her gay dancers grab her tits, grope her punani and other shit that Katy Perry doesn’t even come close to achieving with a fucking Betty Page reference on top of a candy cake. Not to be repetitive but you got Lana Del Rey pretending to shoot herself with a gun while drunk and blowing 50 year old guys and nobody’s going WOW WHAT A SLUT YOU GUYS!!! even though little kids still eat her shit up, go to tumblr and you can find several 11 year old blogs dedicated to her.

Alice Glass needs to sit down.

  • kids
