Courtney Love: “Lady GaGa’s ‘Telephone’ commercial is product placement at its VILEST!”

It’s no secret that the 10 minute video for Lady GaGa and Beyonce’s “Telephone” divided pop fans upon its release. Some people call it a masterpiece, some think it’s overrated, others think it’s too vulgar and a few just flat out hate it.
During a preview for an upcoming tell all interview with Fuse TV, rocker Courtney Love made her true feelings about the video very clear when discussing the possibility of getting artist David LaChapelle to direct some videos from her new album Nobody’s Daughter.
“David ain’t cheap and he’s my best friend and he said he’d do it for it nothing, [but] David’s version of ‘nothing’ is beyond… more than what Lady GaGa and Beyonce spent on that “Telephone” commercial that they did… I think it’s product placement at it’s vilest.”
The interviewer than said that the video was a mixture of fake product placement and real product placement, but was cut off quickly by Courtney.
“That video was paid for. $180,000 of that video was paid for by the telephone company that’s in there. I think the video takes product placement to a new low, frankly. That’s my opinion”.
Do you think that there’s too much product placement in video’s these days? Would you rather your favorite stars turn their music and visuals into commercials to increase their budget, or would you rather them just do something cheaper and let the music speak for itself?

I dont think I am allowed to talk trash about GAGA since I got a free VIP ticket to her concert this upcoming saturday, but I can not say I disagree with Courtney.
This video plays and about every ten seconds another product shows up, damn girls, come on!
Bey, we know you are an unoriginal, copying uninspiring bitch who likes to sabotage others careers, but you got to take yourself seriously and bring in some creativity instead of walking around like a stupid puppet!
Gaga is such a talented girl, but I think she is the most overrated chick in the history of music. Everything she does has been done before and people act like she invented it. She is a mix of every other artist that’s been out there.
I hated the video so much, people think that wearing some weird costumes makes you a great artist, or creates a great video or performance. Go back to pre 2004, that’s where the great music and performances and especially video’s were and take it from there and create soemthing new and original!
There’s product placements in most of GaGa’s videos, in fact, paparazzi, telephone, bad romance, love game all have product placements, she’s an advertising puppet… and i feel sorry for those who can’t see because it just shows how naive they are, sorry.
I agree with Courtney 100%. Lady Gaga story for telephone was so fake and the subliminal message made no sense lol
I agree Lili all the way!
andy = truth
It’s hard to be original right now, i think. It’s a weird cycle in music. The labels want hit singles, hires the ‘hot’ producers to make the same formula singles (same beats, words, riffs, etc), and everyone ends up sounding similar. Some artists seem to be scared of not being number 1 so they go with what they’re told. The label just gives them the option of which formula they want to use. If the music is similar, of course the images will be too because everyone’s selling the same thing.
If people don’t understand the subliminal messages in her videos, then read these…

I have and will always STAN for Vigilante Citizen..
Gotta love Courtney! Speaks the truth, as much as I love GaGa and seeing her over the summer it’s basically the flat out truth.
I have to go buy Hole’s album soon too.
I might cosign with Courtney if I believed she wasn’t in the music industry for the money, but since I don’t I’m not going to give Gaga and other artists any flack about doing it more publicly.
She’s right. Every video has at least 2 product placements. it’s getting a little to much.
If you let product placement influence you in any significant way it just goes to show you are easily swayed and manipulable.
If you’re not influenced however, why do you care if their’s advertisement on?
This is a business, boys and girls, designed to produce maximum profits and minimize costs.
If GaGa/her management decides its viable to subsidize the production costs by selling ad space? what problem do you have with it? If its the capitalism aspect then you should just be as outraged about the fact she albums.
anything for publicity huh courtney? first claiming you slept with that womans husband, now this…
its no secret that lady gaga had product placement in her vid, which alot do these days to offset the costs. get the f*ck over it.
Lady Gaga is the only popstar at the moment even bothering to do these super big high budget videos, and all people can do is whine about product placement. They are neccesary in oder to have such an extravagent video.
If people are illegally downloading the music than the money has to come from some where else….

You know why GaGa’s the only doing extravagant videos? Because she’s getting $ from the ads.
If she had no ads it wouldn’t exist.
Sadly she set the bar too high for herself and now shell have to keep doing bigger and more extravagant or people will lose interest.
GaGa’s still unoriginal. That “monster” signature sign thing, hello THRILLER!
the thing is Telephone did its job that was to launch the song to the top of the charts all around the world
courtney looks great, byw she is 100% right about that video but tbh any video Gaga makes is gonna contain product placement because despite what she has brainwashed most into thinking SHE is a product…
Who cares what she has to say she sounded high anyways. What she fails to realize is that in this world of tivo ads that get ffwd advertisers must look for new media advertising opportunities… Videos are expensive. record sales don’t cover the videos cost anymore. I think gaga’s team was brilliant for doing this. Yes it would be nice to not have to see product placements in videos. But people aren’t buying music. Someone has to pay for it! Lets just hope that we don’t have to hear ads in the songs.. that COULD be next if people continue to steal music.
To generate the best possible effect of the product placement the brands should be integrated in the plot. But in case of Telephone video its hardly so almost all placements were forced in the shots. We could say that there is a case of product placement prostitution in the Telephone video.

omg, she was making fun of product placement, it was so blatantly obvious (clearly to some anyway)
ppl acting like she’s the only one, product placement IS apart of the industry, someone has to pick up the tab right ? RIGHT!!! labels don’t shell out but so much money for videos now a days so it’s up to the artist to sometimes cover the bill, rappers do it to with the alcohol, Diddy with his CROC shit and when Jay & them use to do it with Crystal & so on, plus all the sports cars is product placement, that’s just how it is, who cares, it doesn’t take away from a vid. just cause it has product placement, shit needs to get paid for, and Gaga’s videos aren’t cheap neither are the directors she works with
thank you koosnee, there’s product placement everywhere, hell sometimes when you watch a vid. online there’s a damn 15 sec. ad. Gaga was making fun of the over saturated product placement we see everyday, esp. since it’s so over saturated here in America compared to other countries, hence them dancing in a American styled Diner in killing U.S. civilians symbolizing what goes on in our country
i agree with courtney, and with most of you guys here..just a random thought, how hilarious it would be to see product placement in hole’s new videos!?!?!! hahaha
nobody’s daughter has been out for two weeks now i think, how did it do in the charts? i own it and i think its amazing
i think, it’s okay if you’re using a commercial product in your music video.. than you making a cheap and standard music video. because gaga bring something different in telephone
i agree with pez… and why waste time in an interview talkin buot gaga :\ #fail
All of Lady Gaga’s videos are drowned with product placement, she goes over board with it just as much as what she wears! She even admitted she is broke and that’s why nobody ever mentions these company’s paying for her videos just to put their products in them!
If you’re a true artist, you shouldn’t have to have product placement in your videos!

i guess clonetina isnt a true artist, since her latest vid was drowned with endorsements, from the perfume, to the phone, i could go on forever
[...] Courtney Love: “Lady GaGa's 'Telephone' commercial is product … [...]
@marymag- that was her own perfume and yes she used a phone but since you said you could go on and on about the endorsements, what else did she use?
And you keep trying to shy away from the fact that whatever “sexual” look/thing Lady Gag-Me is trying to rock right now, Christina already did that look waaayyyy back in 2002!
A LOT of people forget that Lady Gaga admits to using ALL of her money on her costumes, performances, and work. She’s notorious for having constant fights with her financial manager over spending. One example is her completely transforming her whole Monster Ball Tour from the U.S. & Canada to overseas.
So of course, she HAS to do product placement out the window when she hasn’t even bought her own house/apartment yet! She admits to living on her tour bus.
@LiLi UK Wow, I can’t believe you’ve been brainwashed by that paranoid fool! Yeah, I read that website and it’s amazing how that author of Vigilant Citizen ALWAYS skews every symbol (despite how neutral it is) as being demonic or evil in some sense. Even when those supposed Illuminati artists are wearing Christian symbols or talking about their Christian faith, that fool finds some way to twist it into his own selfish plans of fitting into his Illuminati/Masonic crackpot theories.
His supposed justification and references to Illuminati/Masonic symbolism makes as much sense as saying that the stars have “formed” constellations.
@LiLi UK By the way, the author of Vigilant Citizen suffers from what we psych students call the “furtive fallacy”
@kene
FACT of the matter is you said and I quote “If you’re a true artist, you shouldn’t have to have product placement in your videos!”
Fact of the matter is Recycletina had product placement in her video.
Conclusion- Clonetina, in your opinion, is NOT a true artist!
You can keep trying to change the subject but IN YOUR OWN WORDS you indirectly said floptina is NOT a true artist!
@marymag- You’re so stupid! You said you could go on and on and list every single product placement in the video and when I told you to go ahead and list them you suddenly change the subject like you always do so you don’t look like a dumbass you stupid bitch!
A true artist is somebody who has complete creative control over their music, who has control over their life and finances, has their own studio and doesn’t have to put out album after album like certain other people do just to stay relevant.
Christina has written her own music since Stripped and had control over her image and entire career since 2000. She hasn’t had to answer to anybody in her entire career about what’s good for her and doesn’t have to have somebody in her face dictating to her what to wear, what to sing, how to look in pictures etc…..Christina also has a manager who allows her to make her own decisions because he knows that whatever Christina wants, Christina gets and he knows Christina will go great with whatever she signs on to do.
This fall, Christina will be starring in a movie with one of the biggest gay icons in the music industry and also has a few new songs with her as well on the soundtrack!
If you can survive in the industry for 10 years, being able to stay relevant even when you do take big breaks in between albums, sold over 43 million, won 4 grammy’s, have had a lasting relationship/marriage, maintained custody of your kid and don’t have more than one baby mama or baby daddy and still standing strong then that makes you a TRUE ARTIST and Christina falls into everything that I just listed!
Lady Gag-Me will only be relevant as long as she continues to dress crazy but from my understanding people say it’s starting to get old and would like for her to do something different and they have a nice point.
Christina may be doing things this time around with her new album that other people are already doing but the sound is different for Christina. If you don’t like it, fuck you!
And once again im able to rile you up without any effort on my part lol
LOLING at this bum who cannot address HIS OWN words! and i repeat-
FACT of the matter is you said and I quote “If you’re a true artist, you shouldn’t have to have product placement in your videos!”

she didnt have to dictate-which is why she changes her image and music to fit the current trend, and it STILL backfired. she performed on oprah kene! why isnt the song #1 on itunes like you said it’d be? why isnt it played on the radio?hmm??
Why do you keep mentioning lady gaga? Is this because she took the game from xtina and ur mad?
what the heck does having kids or baby mommas/daddies have to do with being a true artist?? Gladys Knight has more than 1 baby daddy, so according to you shes not a true artists then?Aretha Franklin has more than 1 baby daddy, so that makes her a fake artist then/ You are really making yourself look like an absolute fool! Saying anything and everything to defend floptina haha and making yourself look like an ignorant idiot in the process.
Is this post about Lady Gaga? Why are you so obsessed with her? I cannot see one of your posts without you mentioning lady gaga constantly. Go to LadyGaGaDaily or somewhere so you can stan for her! Stop stanning in here
@marymag- same goes with you- I always see you on an xtina post commenting about what’s being posted! You hate her so much but yet you’re always posting comments about her! So you’re not too much better than me!
hate who? sweetie i dont hate anyone-but youre OBSESSED with lady gaga.you love her! shes on your mind 24/7, u mention her in every single one of ur comments! your infatuation with her is quite disturbing!like i said go to gagadaily, where youll find more ppl to share your love with for lady gaga!
