Cassie performs “King of Hearts” on 106 & Park
It’s only taken her six years, but Cassie has finally returned to the place that derailed her entire career — the 106 & Park stage!
Much like Lana Del Rey and Ashlee Simpson, Cassie suffered a majorly messy setback when she performed her hit single “Me & U” for the first time in 2006, but unlike Del Rey and Simpson, her music career never quite recovered, and she’s been the subject of ridicule in the urban blogosphere ever since.
As we all know, Cassie’s since returned to the music scene with a brilliant new single “King of Hearts”, and she’s just given the song the most publicity she possibly could by performing it live on 106 & Park this afternoon.
People expecting a trainwreck will be pretty disappointed. Cass actually did pretty good, singing almost the entire song live and moving around the stage with a tonne of confidence and energy. The performance was miles away from the shy whisperer we saw shaking like a leaf all those years ago on the same stage, but realistically, it wasn’t exactly amazing in the grand scheme of the pop universe. All Cassie really did was catch up to the likes of Rihanna and Katy Perry, but she delivered more live vocals than Nicki Minaj and served up more swagger than Britney Spears, so she’s certainly leapfrogged past pop’s bottom of the barrel performers.
At the end of the day, it’s just good to see Cassie out there promoting her incredible tunes with more than just random radio interviews and photo shoots. In June, she’ll perform a 20-minute set for the Isle of MTV festival in Spain, so we’ve definitely got some more new & improved Cassie performances to look forward to this year.
Now can “King of Hearts” please start charting? It’s too perfect to flop!
