Cassie performs “King of Hearts” on 106 & Park

It’s only taken her six years, but Cassie has finally returned to the place that derailed her entire career — the 106 & Park stage!

Much like Lana Del Rey and Ashlee Simpson, Cassie suffered a majorly messy setback when she performed her hit single “Me & U” for the first time in 2006, but unlike Del Rey and Simpson, her music career never quite recovered, and she’s been the subject of ridicule in the urban blogosphere ever since.

As we all know, Cassie’s since returned to the music scene with a brilliant new single “King of Hearts”, and she’s just given the song the most publicity she possibly could by performing it live on 106 & Park this afternoon.

People expecting a trainwreck will be pretty disappointed. Cass actually did pretty good, singing almost the entire song live and moving around the stage with a tonne of confidence and energy. The performance was miles away from the shy whisperer we saw shaking like a leaf all those years ago on the same stage, but realistically, it wasn’t exactly amazing in the grand scheme of the pop universe. All Cassie really did was catch up to the likes of Rihanna and Katy Perry, but she delivered more live vocals than Nicki Minaj and served up more swagger than Britney Spears, so she’s certainly leapfrogged past pop’s bottom of the barrel performers.

At the end of the day, it’s just good to see Cassie out there promoting her incredible tunes with more than just random radio interviews and photo shoots. In June, she’ll perform a 20-minute set for the Isle of MTV festival in Spain, so we’ve definitely got some more new & improved Cassie performances to look forward to this year.

Now can “King of Hearts” please start charting? It’s too perfect to flop!

    LMFAO SHE’S SO AWFUL
AND SHE REHEARSED FOR LIKE 2 MONTHS SMH

“moving around the stage with a tonne of confidence and energy. ”LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • Nicky

“and served up more swagger than Britney Spears”

um she made britney look like michael jackson. *logs off*

Oh, the crazy Britney stans are here.

Yes, Britney is a wonderful performer. I love her stunning live vocals, incredibly powerful choreography, and all that confidence and charisma she just oozes on stage.

My favorite part is when she sits on those little trollys and kind of looks around while her backing dancers just wheel her around the stage and fireworks and lights are going off everywhere to distract everybody from Britney. Not because Britney is a shockingly awful performer these days, but just because she’s so absolutely incredibly amazing that her performances and tours just need a lot of bells and whistles because couldn’t handle the epicness if it was just her slaying them.

I shouldn’t have said the “tonne” about the energy lol. I was just thinking tonne applied when comparing to the likes of Britney, Rihanna, Katy etc.

But realistically, THIS is what a tonne of energy looks like. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mi4XGMCWtZ8

I was pleasantly suprised by this, can’t wait for the album!

  • Prophetina

the only bad thing was that she mixed in the kanye west remix towards the end of the song, but other than that it was cool to finally see her on stage again.
now i only hope that she will take that announced club tour overseas.

The crowd loved her. Its been so long since seeing her on a stage.

I dont know what people were expecting with Cassie but she has improved. Did a little bit of a dance, sung live for most of the time and used the stage. Its Cassie, she is no Ciara when it comes to the stage.

she has come a long way and i couldn’t be more proud!

My favorite part of britney’s shows are when they wheel out that big fancy chair during the break down of “Hold it against Me” so she can sit down for a breather. i mean, she’s been so busy prior to that destroying the stage for hours that she must NEED and deserves it…oh wait, that’s during the opening number…LoL

I think KOH isn’t they type of song most artists can pull off live, unless you are on the same level of performer like Pink, Beyonce, or any K-Pop artist. The notes are mostly low and hard to sing live, especially when you’re dancing. I think she should have just danced her ass off and mimed all of the song. That’d be great!

So glad she finally performed. We need KOH to hit #1 on Billboard Club asap!

Compared to the rest of the bunch we have today and compared to her other performance, she did awesome. She sang and danced well, unlike Rihanna and Katy Perry who can’t dance or sing to save their lives. Britney used to be able to dance but could never sing and dance live together. Of course she’s no Beyonce but most aren’t going to be. This was the most entertaining swag filled performance I’ve seen in a long time. Love Cassie, I wish the music video had had more dancing like this.

  • INCAS

Vast improvement Cassie. Keep at it!

  • Hanniel

I see Keri Hilson dancing for Cassie in the pic.

MY PRINCES OF HEART! Right behind Big Bang being my Kings! T_T

  • iAmAwesome

Poor Keri Hilson… first Wal-Mart parking lot concerts then backing for fucking Cassie.

  • KingBeaArthur

Loved it! Cassie sounded great! No more of the whisper shit. But um, Keri? Gurl…

  • Shady1

Don’t cum for MissCarried Baby lol

  • SerferTJ

She did sooooo well!!! She sang well, the choreography was beautiful and well executed, and she got a lot of crowd participation! GET EM CASS!!!

My only critisism is the whole styling of the performance. The video was so “high fashion” and elegant, while here she’s dancing with girls wearing cut-off jean booty shorts. I really think it would have been a stronger look if she was performing with male back-up dancers wear all black or something. I guess I might forgive her for that given the audience.
