BoA’s flaw-free music video for “The Shadow”

BoA‘s Only One album is a tad disappointing compared to the bulletproof Hurricane Venus / Copy & Paste (however, it’s nothing that a repackage won’t fix), but Ms. Kwon has been on point when it comes to her singles this era. The title track is undoubtedly the best thing on the disc, and “The Shadow”, which just received a music video, is definitely one of the album’s strongest cuts.

Much like SHINee’s “Sherlock”, “The Shadow” manages to strike the perfect balance between slick set-based choreography and having some semblance of plot. Lately, SM either take things too far (EXO’s “MAMA”), or keep it way too simple (f(x)’s “Electric Flop”), so it was good to see them finally get things right on the music video front for once.

And can we talk about how hot BoA looks? “Only One” didn’t do justice to her beauty at all, but Kween Kwon is seriously smokin’ in “The Shadow”.

BoA stays slaying these top-tier pop divas from every different country in the world. It’s a shame that attempt to crack American never worked out, because when you watch clips like “Only One” and “The Shadow”, you see that she deserves to be competing in the same league as the Katy Perry’s, Beyonce’s, and Rihanna’s of the industry.

Check out “The Shadow” below.

Katy Perry, Beyonce, and Rihanna jaws would drop if they saw Queen BoA in this video. Pure talent!!!!!

  • itstwitmebetch

She should make an English version of this song. Its my fav on the album

i love that her hotness does not distract from all the talent that’s going on in the mv.

She looks more beautiful than ever, honestly. She was so stick-thin in the Hurricane Venus era and looked so exhausted that it distracted from her performance skills. This woman dances up a storm with the ease Katy Perry pastes a rapper on her songs to get a #1/Beyoncé pastes her name in the credits of everything she releases.

I love Not Over U on her album.

    off*

She’s easily the most complete female dancer in K-pop. She pulls over every style effortlessly, it’s insane how good she is, Only One was easily the most technically difficult dance I’ve seen in K-pop for a while.

Yeah the Only One album isn’t as strong as HV/C&P but they were flawless, in the truest sense of the word, so I don’t think she could’ve lived up to the standard they set anyway. Oh and there aren’t any plans for an Only One repackage, if you didn’t know. But whatever, this video is amazing. I love how it interpreted the song’s theme of perception, the editing is masterfully woven together, the dancing is fantastic, the outfits are all on point and BoA looks GORGEOUS. Absolute perfection~ I have not, and i doubt i ever will, grow tired of this woman.

On a side note SM should really start commissioning BoA’s brother’s production company to do videos for their other acts as well. He worked magic with this and Only One (both versions imo). Even the Game video was better than most of SM’s mv’s this year and that was just a low budget vid for a buzz single.

prophet…. will you wright about junsu´s new video?

Great song and video! Boa truly is one of a kind. Not gonna lie, one of the reasons I hope certain K-Pop artists “make it” in the US is so that they can show Western audiences what they have been missing in terms of stage performance. Like, who would go to see Nicki Minaj or Katy Perry live when they can go see Boa, Xia or 2NE1 instead? Western acts have become so lazy that I feel like they need some serious competition to whip them into shape.

Flawless is too weak of a word to describe BoA.. She’s immaculate..

  • norimix1

Most well rounded female entertainer since Janet Jackson..

  • Fawoo

BoA needs to stop wasting her time in Korea and start doing some heavy duty promotions in Japan and America. SMENT is sitting on a megastar that could potentially outsell even Britney if marketed right.

Maaaaan, I need a follow-up to the flawless Eat You Up.

Flawless Choreo is right. It was amazing to watch. Plus finally a decent video from SM. She looks really beautiful in this video. Im glad queen BOA is back.

I know. I was wondering if SM was trying harder in BOA’s MV. So much symbolism in the shadow. But guess it was her bro, man SM sucks at being creative.

I prefer Not Over U but this MV is flawless

I was really shocked that it was BoA’s brother that directed the vids, I thought they were some of her best and he obviously is very good.

  • yosafbridge

This song gives me an f(x) vibe. Except that BoA has a lot more swag than f(x).

I wish she made music video for The Top! I’m not really into The Shadow, but this MV looks great. Still wishing The Top gets the MV treatment, tho.

  • norimix1

They are from the same Korean music label.. SM Entertainment.
