Beyonce performs “Girls” on Oprah; gets busted copying again

Beyonce followed up her epic Billboard Awards performance today with another rendition of “Run the World Girls”, this time live on the Oprah finale. The performance was taped last week, so technically it could be considered  the first live showing of the song.

Once again, Bey brought the fire to the stage in terms of singing and dancing, but all-in-all this one was a bit of a let down. Without the fancy ‘effects’ concept that we saw at the Billboards Award, this performance came across as nothing more than a rehash of the Sasha Fierce era – in particular, the “Single Ladies” VMAs performance. It was just the same old thing we’ve seen a million times before from Bey, and it’s a disappointment in an era when all the top female stars are re-inventing themselves. It’s not Bey’s skills as a performer that’s the problem; it’s everything else.

Oh, and speaking of the Billboard Awards, it turns out that Beyonce copied that whole awesome performance concept with the white effects screen from Italian singer Lorella Cuccarini (proof below).

Who else would give the greatest performance of their whole career, and then get busted the next day for copying it from somebody else? Only Bey.

If you are a designer, you need to got your own style.
Tribe Inc designed both performances, so we can see a few similarities.

Anyway, Bey slayed every second of her performance. Even when she was not “playing” with this big screen. Accept it. (:

Clearly plenty are. Her song is a big fat flop and she’s been replaced with women who are either younger, prettier, or more talented. Adele hasn’t had to lift a thigh and is slaying this tired ho. She needs to go give her hideous big lipped bandit husband some babies and leave the music industry to the new generation. She’s so 2003 and this is 2011.

I love Beyonce, and yes I see a few things that are similar but nothing major, she didn’t steal the performance completely so I think she needs people to give her a break. I mean its obvious she took a few things in the performance but Beyonce made it completely different.

Beyonce didnt copy it. Beyonce said that she was inspired by Lorella’s video she watched in Youtube. She contacted the grapihic designers and used a sample, and denied claims of ‘copying’. Or else she would be sued .___.

Totally agree! I think what people have to get straight in their heads on this thing is what ‘artist’ means to them. If you are easily swayed by wigs, colours, lights and fake flash, then you are from the canned pop artist era, which is exactly what Beyonce is from. She wants to be as iconic as Michael Jackson, but guess what honey, you’ll never be if you are taking fully formed and previously realized ideas from real artists around the world. Do you think MJ copied the moon walk from someone else? How can anyone have respect for any artist who steals and then smiles and takes the accolades for it and then wants to be called ‘Queen B’ or whatever the hell she’s trying to do. She’s not original , get real! She should call it what it really is – she’s a ‘performer’, she’s not a creator. BIG difference.

No way! She is the ‘artist’, she has to be accountable and will be held accountable for anything she puts out there. SHe’s not a small child with no brain (or is she?). She should damn well be responsible and know what’s being put out to the world cloaked as ‘her ideas’. The point here isn’t just that she took a fully formed idea from someone else, it’s that she’s NOT putting ORIGINAL CREATIVE IDEAS out to the world. So, if she’s not contributing originality, what is she contributing as an artist? Great legs, a wig and a specialized choreography team for those dance moves? WOW, that’s talent alright!

  • Generation_embrance

You guys confuse inspiration and copying. If you did more research with an open mind, she hasn’t got a single song or dance move that doesn’t come from somewhere.

Actually, MJ did get the moonwalk from someone else, but he openly gave credit where credit was due. Now as far as him combining different dances in a brand new way. That was MJ’s genius.
