Beyonce and Lady GaGa tumble down the Hot 100

Things just keep going from bad to worse for Beyonce. After her new single “Run the World (Girls)” initially entered the Hot 100 with a disappointing thud at #33, the song has now tumbled in its second week, sliding down to a disappointing #48. Bey’s second week slump is a result of a decline in digital sales (“Girls” is down 38%) and a poor reception at radio.
And if the current iTunes position of “Girls” is anything to go by, week three isn’t going to be any better for the noisy tune — “Girls” is currently sitting #88, and has been on a constant free-fall since peaking right after its initial release. I guess hiring Francis Lawrence for a huge 3 day music video shoot is probably starting to look like a bit of a waste of money now, right?
Meanwhile, Bey’s old Destiny’s Child bandmate Kelly Rowland seems to be having much more luck on the charts: Her latest single “Motivation” climbs 54-43, surpassing Bey’s big bomb with ease.
Being outcharted by K-Row is just another blow for Bey in what has been an awful week for her. The booty shaker made headlines everywhere from the L.A. Times and Yahoo to ABC News after she was booed on the red carpet at the Met Gala for refusing to stop for press interviews, and only pausing briefly to pose for photos. She was also mocked by fashion critics for her skin tight outfit, which landed her on Entertainment Weekly’s worst dressed list.
Bey’s former collaborator Lady GaGa isn’t faring too well on the charts this week, either; Her new single “Judas” drops 12-20 in it’s third week on the Hot 100. The slide is attributed to a sharp drop in digital sales, which saw a large decrease of 48%. Meanwhile, her first single “Born this Way” continues to perform much better, sitting at #16 — four spots higher than “Judas”.
GaGa is set to drop the much-hyped “Judas” music video today (or tomorrow, depending on where you live), so perhaps the video will give the song a boost on the charts.
In other chart news, Katy Perry remains at #1 AGAIN with “E.T.”, which sells another 300k to clock in a fifth week at the top. Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” stays put at #2, while Britney Spears zooms into #3 with “Till the World Ends”, thanks the official ‘Femme Fatale Remix’ featuring Nicki Minaj and Ke$ha.
