B2ST’s Yoseob Releases Cool Solo Single “Caffeine”, Remains Cute and Amazing

Kikwang is my B2ST bias solely due to the fact that I want him to sit on my face and never get off, but if King Kik wasn’t so sexy, I’d primarily stan for Yoseob. Like T-ara’s Jiyeon, he just stands out from the crowd, packing more charisma in his chubby boyish face than most idols have in their entire plastic surgery enhanced bodies.
The 22-year-old went solo this week, and although I wouldn’t quite say that I’m addicted to his solo single, “Caffeine”, like I was to B2ST’s “Fiction” or “Beautiful Night”, I do still phucking LUB it.
The song, apparently written and produced by B2St’s Junhyung, is pretty interesting. It opens with Yoseob whisper-rapping and singing over melancholy acoustics, which eventually segue into more rhythmic sounding –but still subdued– percussion. Orchestral strings, piano, and a few synths eventually weave their way into “Caffeine”, making the song sound both dense and sparse at the same time.
The lyrics are simple but potent, with Yoseob crooning about a girl who’s bad for him and keeps him awake at night (been there, done that, but it was a guy), just like caffeine. He sounds like he’s saying, “Grr you’re like a coffee”, but apparently it’s “caffeine” — he’s just Engrished the phuck out of it.
This is easily one of the better solo songs of the year, especially when compared to G-Dragon, but I didn’t expect anything less from B2ST. Everything they’ve done since the Fiction and Fact album has been on point, especially on the ballad front. If “Caffeine” was released as a B2St single, it’d undoubtedly smash, snatch, and slay.
