Akon talks signing Jeffree Star: “He’s the male Lady GaGa”

We all know by now that Akon has made a very bold move of signing gay internet-celebrity/singer Jeffree Star, but nobody really knew how excited he was over his new artist — until now. In an interview with Dr Jays, Akon briefly discusses working with Jeffree, referring to him as “the male version of GaGa”, “the next biggest thing”, and that the world “isn’t ready”.

I guess Akon doesn’t realize that Jeffree has actually been famous for about five years now as one of MySpace’s self-made superstars. Sounds like someone is a little late to the party…

    look nicky u really could go f urself! talent isnt always about having an amazing voice! he writes amazing lyrics that actually MAKE some some not like gaga because most of her lyrics sound like they were written by a wacky cray cray person BUT i still LOVE her! Jeffree improves in every songs he makes! I’ve been with jeffree almost from the very beginning and I see as every other J* fan that he grew up a lot! I thinl jeffree isnt the male version of gaga, hes an alien from another world, superior and and tho the world ain’t ready and all the gays will be hating at the beginning jeffree will come, give us the pink effect and take over the rest of the world!

    His lyrics are ok but amazing… can’t say i agree.

    Lady Gaga was a little different when she came around, i can’t help but think that Akon is getting different mixed up with talented. Akon struck gold with Gaga and I’m guessing he feels like because Jeffree is also a little different he can do it all over again but the difference is that Lady Gaga can actually sing…

    How fucking stupid. Jeffree has NO talent, anyone can write lyrics. He can’t sing. Anyone can get on a stage. And obviously these days, anyone can get a record deal. So it’s not suprising. Akon shouldn’t even be comparing him to Lady GaGa, we’ll see if he sells over 25 million singles worldwide and 13 million albums.

    Jeffree will flop. He can’t be the next Gaga because:

    1. Gaga can actually sing
    2. People like Gaga. A lot of people already know about Jeffree and most people hate him.

    He will be a joke and I can’t see anyone stanning for him aside form trannies and queens. Not that I have a problem with that, but that’s not enough to sustain a successful pop career. Gaga has that fanbase and she also has mainstream appeal, which Jeffree does not.

    I have to take a minute to focus on Akon being a semi-hip-hop artist and not being afraid to associate himself with a male gay artist. I think that music has come along way and we should applaud this. because a few yrs ago this would not be! Because hip-hop artist can be very closed minded in a way and unless it was a chick who likes girls they wouldn’t touch it. So i applaud him.

    I’m just really getting sick of all of these artists pushing these OTT persona’s, “shock” tactics, and take themselves so seriously. I’d rather have an artist that actually has substance to them, are more natural, is actually fun, and that people actually like just for being themselves.

    I want another Gwen Stefani, Fergie, or Nelly Furtado if anything…

    Honestly, Jeffree was around before Gaga and he basically portrayed the same image: a fame hungry, beauty obsessed, superficial outcast who incorporated dark/violent images into his persona.

    I know a lot of people don’t like him (I don’t like him personally because I think he is downright evil and has no right to be because he is not attractive. If he was attractive, then perhaps we could rationalize his rottenness but no, he is a pale, skinny, twig.)

    However, Beauty Killer has some great production. I honestly thought Prisoner was amazing and could have been a hit for anyone who wasn’t Jeffree. Same goes to Get Away With Murder. Anyways, I hope that this means higher production value and better beats and music in general.

    I highly doubt he will be commercially successful however, knowing him, he will try many desperate ways to create controversy and whore himself out as much as possible to the media.

    At least Gaga has the talent to back up her image, but with Jeffree Star his image FAR OUTWEIGHS any talent he has!

    If Jeffree Star plays his cards right he just MIGHT have moderate success. As much as you guys hate to see Jeffree has a huge fanbase made up from Gays, Scene Kids etc. which is primarily what you need when starting a main-stream career. He also has a completely different image unlike anything out there and could definetly get tabloid attention. As far as talent gos he isnt the most talented guy in the world but cmon, look at artists like Ke$ha who has the singing range of a dieting bulldog.

    As far as the Lady GaGa comparison gos, Akon is obviously trying to build up hype like seriously, using the word GaGa in a sentence can attract attention these days.

    i Don’t know if only gays and scene kids would like him, if he gets some hot songs and good video’s he might get a bigger mainstream fanbase.
    Look at Boy George and The Scissor Sisters (even though they can actually sing).

    I feel like Jeffree has ALOT of potential but it would be nice to see him sing songs other than self explanatory IM A HOT BITCH numbers.     Akon’s taking a HUGE gamble signing Jeffree Star. Obviously, he believes that lightning will strike twice, though, honestly, I believe that Jeffree Star will never achieve mainstream success, but indeed never rise from the niche market he’s already created.

    I just like to say i’v been listening to jeffree’s music for over a year now and following him on twitter/facebook… hes worked so hard to get to where he is & i think he’s great! i think everyone is entitled to there own opinion but yeah whatever… GO JEFFREE <3

    Jeffree’s extremely talented and really makes people go “wow” – even before you hear his music. I think Akon has made a good move by signing this guy. A lot of younger people look up to Akon and this really could change the way school kids address homosexuality, beauty and music. I’m really happy for both of them and wish them both great success with this album.
