Ailee turns disco diva for huge comeback single “I’ll Show You”

Ailee shows us that the disco trend in K-pop is far from dead with the release of her new single “I’ll Show You”. The song serves as the follow-up to her debut tune “Heaven”, which is currently one of the highest-selling K-pop songs of the year and established the former Jersey girl as one of the biggest new stars of 2012.
While “Halo” clone “Heaven” saw Ailee doing her best Beyonce impersonation, “I’ll Show You” is a throwback to seventies disco diva anthems. Specifically Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive”, which serves as the template for “I’ll Show You”.
Like Gaynor’s hit, “I’ll Show You” opens like a piano-laden heartbreak ballad about being broken by a man.
“Was it that good / good enough to leave me?” Ailee laments. “How could I have done better?”
As the song reaches the hook, it suddenly bursts into a glittery explosion of thumping disco and female empowerment.
“I’ll meet a better man and show you that I’m happier than you!” Ailee defiantly wails. “I’m fine without you / I won’t give up.”
The production is authentically disco in the best way possible. It doesn’t sound like a modern interpretation of the genre like T-ara’s “Roly Poly” or miss A’s “Touch”. It’s a real throwback to the seventies, which is why Ailee’s recreation of Gaynor’s classic feels like an honorable homage rather than a shady knock-off.
And as if this comeback couldn’t get any better, MBLAQ’s G.O. stars in the official music video. Yummmmmmm.
Ailee had her comeback stage on M! Countdown tonight, and I don’t think that I even need to tell you that she killed it. All her Immortal Song performances have paid off because she really knows how to work a stage like a pro now.
